Founded in 1983 in Chicago, Illinois, Master stands as one of the true founding forces of death metal. Few bands can claim such a direct role in shaping the genre’s earliest identity, and even fewer have sustained that vision with the same conviction for over four decades. Now based in Uherské Hradiště, Czechia, Master remains a vital and uncompromising presence, still driven by the relentless spirit of founder, bassist and vocalist Paul Speckmann.
Across a groundbreaking 40+-year career, Master has built a legacy rooted in raw intensity, underground credibility and absolute dedication to old school death metal. At the center of that legacy is Speckmann, one of the scene’s most enduring figures, whose work extends beyond Master into other key projects including Death Strike, Abomination, Funeral Bitch and Speckmann Project. Through countless releases, lineups and international chapters, Master has never lost its core identity: aggressive, stripped-down and fiercely authentic.
Master release their 16th full-length album, "Among the Seeds of Death", on October 16, 2026 via Hammerheart Records, following the acclaimed "Saints Dispelled" from 2024. The new album is a fierce continuation of everything Master has always stood for: a raw mixture of old-fashioned death-thrash, punk attitude and relentless aggression, with no interest in contemporary trends. Drawing heavily on the spirit of the 1980s and early ’90s while benefiting from a thick, powerful modern recording sound, "Among the Seeds of Death" preserves the ancient feeling at the heart of Master’s music. Once again, Paul Speckmann delivers the uncompromising old-school death metal that has defined the band for decades, proving that after more than four decades, Master remains as vital, authentic and fiercely dedicated as ever.
